An Ambition Fulfilled: 1988-1990 Life of Travel 18
In 1988, I embarked on a two-year journey around the world. I had always dreamed of traveling, and I was finally able to make my dream a reality. I sold my belongings, quit my job, and bought a one-way ticket to Bangkok. I didn't know where I would go or what I would do, but I was excited to find out.

My first stop was Thailand. I spent several weeks exploring the country, from the bustling streets of Bangkok to the serene beaches of Phuket. I visited ancient temples, met friendly locals, and ate delicious food. I fell in love with Thailand and its people, and I knew that I would be back someday.
From Thailand, I traveled to Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, and Australia. I saw orangutans in the rainforest, climbed to the top of Mount Kinabalu, and snorkeled in the Great Barrier Reef. I met people from all over the world, and I learned about different cultures and ways of life.
In 1989, I traveled to Europe. I visited France, Italy, Spain, and Greece. I saw the Eiffel Tower, the Colosseum, the Sagrada Família, and the Parthenon. I ate delicious food, drank fine wine, and met interesting people. I fell in love with Europe and its history, and I knew that I would be back someday.
From Europe, I traveled to Africa. I visited Kenya, Tanzania, and South Africa. I saw lions, elephants, giraffes, and zebras in the wild. I climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, went on a safari, and visited the Apartheid Museum. I met people from all over the world, and I learned about the challenges and triumphs of Africa and its people.
In 1990, I traveled to North America. I visited the United States, Canada, and Mexico. I saw the Statue of Liberty, the Golden Gate Bridge, the Canadian Rockies, and the Mayan ruins. I ate delicious food, met friendly people, and learned about the history and culture of North America.
After two years of travel, I returned home a changed person. I had seen the world and met people from all walks of life. I had learned about different cultures and ways of life. I had grown as a person, and I was ready to start a new chapter in my life.
I am grateful for the opportunity to have traveled the world. It was an experience that changed my life, and I will never forget it.
Here are some of the highlights of my travels:
- Seeing the sunrise over Angkor Wat
- Climbing to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro
- Going on a safari in the Serengeti
- Visiting the Apartheid Museum
- Seeing the Statue of Liberty
- Driving across the Golden Gate Bridge
- Hiking in the Canadian Rockies
- Visiting the Mayan ruins
I learned a lot about myself during my travels:
- I am more adaptable than I thought I was.
- I am more independent than I thought I was.
- I am more resourceful than I thought I was.
- I am more open-minded than I thought I was.
- I am more resilient than I thought I was.
I am grateful for the opportunity to have traveled the world. It was an experience that changed my life, and I will never forget it.
If you have a dream to travel the world, I encourage you to make it a reality. It is an experience that will change your life for the better.
