Mary had found Elvis as a baby, abandoned in the swamp. She nursed him back to health and he quickly became a part of their family.

John was not as thrilled about having an alligator for a pet, but he eventually came to accept Elvis. He even built Elvis a special enclosure in the backyard, where he could swim and sunbathe.

Mary and Elvis had a special bond. She would often talk to him and tell him stories. Elvis would listen attentively, his big eyes fixed on her.

One day, tragedy struck. John was working on his boat when he fell into the water. Elvis, who was nearby, jumped in to save him. But it was too late. John drowned.

Mary was devastated by her husband's death. She couldn't bear to be in the house anymore, so she moved into a small cabin in the swamp.

Elvis went with Mary. He stayed by her side, providing comfort and companionship.

Mary and Elvis lived together for many years. They were known throughout the Everglades as the "woman, her husband, and her alligator."

One day, a group of hunters came to the swamp. They were looking for alligators to kill. Mary knew that they would kill Elvis if they found him, so she hid him in a secret cave.

The hunters searched for days, but they couldn't find Elvis. They eventually gave up and left.

Mary and Elvis were safe. They lived together in the swamp for many more years.

Eventually, Mary died. Elvis was by her side when she passed away.

Elvis lived on for many years after Mary's death. He became a legend in the Everglades. People would come from far and wide to see the alligator who had saved a man's life.

Elvis died in 1987 at the age of 60. He was buried next to Mary in the swamp.

The story of the woman, her husband, and her alligator is a tale of love, loss, and redemption. It is a story that will stay with you long after you finish reading it.
