Davis made her film debut in 1996 in the film "The Substance of Fire". She went on to star in a number of other films, including "Out of Sight" (1998),"Traffic" (2000),and "Doubt" (2008). In 2016, she starred in the film "Fences", for which she won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.
Davis has also had a successful television career. She starred in the television series "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" from 2004 to 2010 and in the television series "How to Get Away with Murder" from 2014 to 2020. In 2015, she won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her role in "How to Get Away with Murder".
